Ways to keep a Furball cool

February was the driest and hottest month since dunno when.

Poor me, with my beautiful thick fur coat, I am hot hot hot.

So Daddy and Mummy have to constantly monitor the temperature especially with the sweltering heat in the afternoon.

Creative Daddy and Mummy came up with ways to lower the temperature: -

1. Fan (preferrably a computer fan) - This is placed next to my villa and is switched on 24/7 to regulate the heat.

2. Cooler gel - courtesy from Daiso. It's only $2! Wrapped it in a towel (in case of condensation) and just placed it at the top of my villa. It's like air-con!

3. Metal tray aka Cotton's loft - courtesy from Ikea. Metal is the best for dispelling heat.

4. Iced box - Just put in the iced pack and the whole metal box will instantaneously turn into an iced box.

With its portability, I can placed it anywhere and even stand on it to cool my lil butt..hee

Thanks Daddy and Mummy for their conscientious efforts to help me keep cool.

I think Cotton can be any of the below except Dog. She can't fart for christ's sake but she can poop like nobody's business. Think can use her poop as bullet. And also, feed her with tonnes of acidic drinks so that she can spray acidic urine on enemies.

Poop + Acidic Urine = One hell of a lethal combination!

Sorry for the lack of updates. Mummy and Daddy have been busy with their own stuff.

Have you been thinking about me? Well, I'm doing fine and life has been the same for me. Not much changes, still cooped up in the tiny prison except that my playground has now expanded from the kitchen to the living room. Yippee! More things to bite!

Daddy lost the bet

If everything goes well, there should a new look to this blog of mine. But sadly, none of this is happening soon. What happened is that Mummy had a bet with Daddy that he has to come up with a new banner design by this weekend. If he loses the bet, he has to sleep early, like 1am, every night. On the surface, it doesn't seems that difficult to achieve but for Daddy it is definitely a tall order cos his usual sleeping time is like..... 3am, the earliest, or 4am. To get him to bed by 1am is quite impossible. Well, hope is free;p

As for Mummy, if she loses the bet, she will have forego her weekend sleep-in and wakes up at say, 9am. Looks like Mummy can have her beauty sleep afterall ;)

There must be lotsa distraction for Daddy to complete the task, so in the end, he lost the bet....let's see how he's gonna bluff his way out of this...hahaaha.

Don't look at me Daddy, Cotton is NOT going to help you out here.

Maybe Mummy should have more evil and up the ante if Daddy loses the bet: Daddy has to finish the Arnold Chicken's Carnival Meal all by himself ;) Next one perhaps

Eyebrows for Poker Face

The thing about Cotton is that she has a poker face. We can never tell what her emotions are - happy, sad or angry - and always clueless about what's going through in that tiny brain of hers.

One fine day, Daddy suddenly had this "brilliant" solution - EYEBROWS. With them, it'll give us some clues to her emotions. We can either draw or paste stickers over it. Brilliant right *Mummy raised up a sarcasm board*

Hmm.. should I or should I not? To have a chinchilla friend that is. Mummy and Daddy are always here for me, but we chinchilla are social animal. So it seems like a good idea to have someone here to share the joy of raisins, to jump for cover together at the sound of thunder, and race around the kitchen when we're allow to run free. Nothing's better than sharing, no?

Mummy recently chanced upon this on youtube and immediately fell in love with it.

It's a platform served to expose the most talented musicians. The main draw of this is "Back to Basics". Musicians are challenged to bring music to its most basic, acoustics and RAW level.

Mummy's favourites are Dirty Heads (fantastic cover on "Viva la Vida") and Rome.

At Last!

At last it's raining and I'm loving every moment.

I can feel the wind in my fur, hear the light patter of the rain on the window panes and smell the invigorating scent of the cool weather.

I'm so excited that I even sacrificed my nap time.

Mummy's note: I don't think it's the cool weather. It's more like the paper towel roll that keeps her entertained, so much so that she just REFUSED to sleep.

Mummy suddenly has this idea of dolling up Cotton. Afterall, Cotton is a girl and I'm sure she has the vanity side (I hope she has).

So I went googling for "Chinchilla Clothes" and was appalled to find sites that SELL chinchilla fur!

GOODNESS!!

How can people do that?!?!?!! Chinchillas are so harmless and cute. No doubt they have the most beautiful and softest fur in the world but this does not give us any right to kill them just for that!

Can you imagine how many chinchilla are sacrificed just to make one fur coat? Worst, there's people who are wiling to pay obscene amount so that they can possess it and flaunt it. How far can one go just for vanity's sake?

Mummy can't bear seeing all this cruelty anymore and pray that one day, such inhumane cruelty towards these defenseless chin will stop.

Attack of Cotton

As responsible and loving parents, we will always spend some quality time with our dearest Cotton everyday. It was one of those rare Saturday nights that Daddy and Mummy came home before midnight. As usual, we would check on her.

Pellet and oatmeal replenished? Checked.

Cage cleaned up? Checked.

The longing look on her wanting to come out? Checked?

Not able to resist that longing look, we would succumbed to that yearning desire of hers and carried her out for a little “stroll” around the house. It was such a great pleasure carrying her around and enjoying the moment together.

But everything changed the moment we put her back in the cage. The cute-looking-yet-timid-and-jumpy Cotton SUDDENLY turned into an aggressive-touch-me-and-I-will-scream creature. She barked and ran away whenever we pat on her head and even sprayed urine at us! We were stupefied by her sudden outburst.

It may be her hormones, or the full moon effect that led to her sudden insanity to attack the hand that feed her. OR it may be the stroke of mid-night that transformed her into urine-spraying ~~Wolverine~~ Cotton.

As much as we love her, discipline must be put in place. As for now, she is grounded and showered with cold shoulders till further notice.

This entry has nothing to do with Cotton. Just that Mummy is having writer's block and trying to think of something to write.

Since it's X'mas soon, Mummy wanna talk about the first X'mas tree she bought in Ikea together with Daddy.

It is a cute mini tree, perfect for the house since we don't have that much space. Daddy tasked Mummy to be the Creative Director to dress up this tree. Mummy had lotsa fun choosing and buying X'mas decorations for it. Mummy even gave the white porcelain pot a golden splash of flowers, just to glam it up.

She's like an Energizer bunny that suddenly runs out of battery. No matter what we did, she refused to stir or even move an inch. So Daddy & Mummy decided to dress her up with whatever we could find. Maybe we can add a bow-tie or a pretty dress for her next time.

To leash or not to leash

We always have this idea of getting a leash/harness for Cotton. It'll be nice to have her around when Daddy and Mummy go for a walk around the estate (at night or when the weather is cooling, of course). However we are concerned if such an idea will be too much for her.

She is jittery to begin with. A slight movement or sound will send her jumping all over her cage. *cough* Coward. If we put her on leash/harness, you will most likely see 2 grown adults desperately trying to catch hold of a wild and aggressively jumpy Cotton. So embarrassing.

Besides, chinchilla releases chunk of its fur as a defence mechanism when caught in a stressed situation. We won't want a balding chinchilla, that's for sure. It'll be too weird.

Their bones and bodies are relatively soft. The leash/harness may cause injuries. What if she breaks her neck?

So should we or should we not?

Last night, Mummy tried to be playful and lifted the mushroom house (while Cotton was still in it) with one hand. Cotton moved and that tilted the balance of the house. Well, you know the rest. YES! Clumsy Mummy dropped the house with Cotton in it and it shattered to pieces immediately.

Now Cotton has to settle with a small porcelain bowl before the new one is purchased.

Sorry baby, Mummy is such a klutz :(

Back from Redang

Back from recharging at Redang, 1st thing I do is check if my baby is still moving. Not to say I don't appreciate my cousin's effort (taking care of cotton) when we're not around, but teenagers with their monosyllabic answer don't exactly fills me with confidence.

Phew.. she looks quite well I'm glad to report. The cage is in dire state of cleanliness, but that's easy enough to clean up. Think she really miss us, with the jumping around and yelping sounds she like to make when she saw we're back. We miss you too cotton!

To our dearest baby,

This is the first time we are leaving you behind, all alone. Frankly speaking, we are worried. Weather is cranky and freaking hot nowadays and we are concerned if it's too hot for you to handle (might get heat stroke, or worst, brain damage). Whenever weather is hot, either Mummy or Daddy will give you "air con" (ice packs form) to cool the surroundings. But who is going to give you air-con during our absence?

So Cotton, you have to brace yourself for it. You need to grow up eventually and now it's a good opportunity. Show us your resilience. Have faith baby!

Fur-Dom Part II

It's Fur-dom part II for me yea!

Daddy, Mummy and Granny are leaving me behind to enjoy 4 days of sun, sand and sea at this beautiful island of Redang. During this time, I've to assume the role of a care-taker and make sure the house is properly maintained. What a BIG responsibility? What can a Fur-ball do except to look cute at all times? But be rest assured, Cotton will not disappoint you *wink wink*

Feeding task is now outsourced to Cousin Xiang so he has to make sure I'm well-fed during this time. Daddy was worried that I will be naughty and attempt to escape so he came up with this ingenious idea of using a tube to transport the pellet to my food dish without Cousin Xiang opening the cage door. Daddy, U think too much! But then again, I'm sure I'll have lotsa fun gnawing at the plastic tube :D

Yes! Cotton is no longer grounded effective last Sunday. The lenient Daddy decided to give her sand bath despite much protest from Mummy. Reason given was that Cotton looked filthy and she needed her bath badly.... Ya right. Did Daddy ever wonder where the filth come from. I guess the forgetful (or chose-to-have-selective-memory) Daddy didn't even remember that the filth was caused by her recent escape ;p

To further show off his indulgence and relentless love for Cotton (or to demonstrate to Cotton that he's the good guy & Mummy is the bad girl), Daddy bought her a Mushroom house (see below).

Now she's living like Smurfette (without her blonde way hair and white high-heels, of course)

She did it AGAIN!

For the 2nd time. She sneaked out when Mummy put in some cardboard “toys” into the cage.

As usual, the swift action of hers made it difficult for Mummy to catch her back. She ran straight to the fridge, hiding behind it. Mummy panicked and with all her strength, (fyi, she has not had her lunch yet) pulled the huge fridge and the cabinet next to it out so that she could get a glance of her baby’s whereabouts. Cotton just loved her dark corner and newfound freedom hence she refused to budge even with rasins (her favourite treat) as bait.

Mummy was at her wits end with absolutely no idea how to lure this baby out from her “comfort zone”. She had exhausted all means (rasins, oatmeals, shoebox) to coax her. At this desperate moment, Granny Chua came to her rescue. With their combined force and wits, Cotton had no way to run away from them. Granny Chua was like a seasoned “catcher”. She used pole to force Cotton to one corner (to prevent her from running further away) while I was at the other corner ambushing. This was not easy as we had to second-guess her next actions. She spent her energy running between the fridge, cabinet and CPUs. By this time, both of us were exhausted and rained with perspiration. Tired! Cotton finally relented and emerged out from her “comfort zone”. This time, I approached her slowly with a box of oatmeal. She was totally clueless of what happened next. I grabbed hold of her and put her back to where she belonged: CAGE.

Both Granny and I heaved with relief that the whole saga (it took us half an hour) was finally over. Ms Cotton was totally unapologetic of her actions. She went straight to her bed and slept, like nothing happened at all! Goodness me!

As a punishment, she will be confined to her cage till further notice. No more treats and outdoor playtime for her. And Daddy, yes, no sandbath for her too!

It was a very messy place initially because she is such a clumsy and overly-enthusiastic jumper . And that, she is bound to spill her food and hay all over the cage. So what to do, we got to change some of her furniture to accommodate her.

Thanks to Daiso for its wide selection of products in amazingly low prices, we managed to grab some very good stuff.

1. Mini broom and dustpan to sweep her never-ending poop

2. Orange and white porcelain bowl for her hay

3. "Dong Nan See Bei" "ashtray" for her pellets (fyi, the directions are placed according to where the sun rises and sets)

4. Thermometer

5. Basket to hang her mini fan

6. Unfinished wooden blocks as toys

Cage Break

Her 1st "cage break" yesterday night. Made a quick escape while her cage was been cleaned. She's just like a ninja, silent and stealth. Before you knew it, she was already out there, sniffing and jumping around. Such a curious baby!
